Players of Utica Presents the Thrilling Qui Nguyen Dramatic Comedy, “She Kills Monsters”
UTICA, N.Y., 01/09/2024 – Players of Utica continues its 2023–2024 Season with the hilarious and heartfelt She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen, author of Disney’s “Strange World.”
Agnes Evans is an average woman with an average life. But when her teenage sister, Tilly, dies unexpectedly, her world is turned upside-down.
Agnes discovers her Dungeons & Dragons-obsessed sister has left behind a campaign for her to play. With the help of an enthusiastic Dungeon Master, a questing party full of outspoken characters, and Tilly’s ghost, Agnes embarks on the adventure of a lifetime as she struggles to come to grips with her sister’s death and the realization that Agnes had missed out on a huge part of Tilly’s life.
Come along with Agnes as she’s catapulted into the vibrant world of tabletop role-playing games. Whether you’re a DnD veteran or a total newcomer to the world of fantasy games, you’ll love this potent mix of sword fights, comedy, and heartfelt storytelling.
The show, directed by Michael Clark, features Lizzie O’Connor, Sarah Wright, Joshua Thompson, Gabe Hage, Hannah Ali, Claire Bosley, Alaces Jewel Sarmiento, Haley Gatley, Mary Grace Kehrli, Dante Polumbo, Joan Price, Justin Jones, Vin Cavo, Makayla Arnold, Salvatore Perritano, and Mason McMahon.
“This is a wonderful show with characters to which we can all relate,” says director Clark. “There are awesome swordfights, hilarious jokes, and real heartfelt moments between these characters that audiences will love. It’s a show about nerdy, queer joy, and about discovering love where you didn’t expect — to which we all can relate.”
The dramatic comedy continues Players of Utica’s long history of high-quality entertainment, being the oldest continually operating community theatre in New York State and one of the five oldest in the entire U.S. — a distinction that our area can be very proud of.
