Players of Utica Presents Musical Sensation, “Funny Girl”
UTICA, N.Y., 05/20/2024 – “Hello, Gorgeous” is the classic opening line of the Broadway musical hit, Funny Girl. Now you can enjoy the dazzling story that follows beginning June 7th at Players of Utica.
This Tony Award-winning musical ran for 1,300 performances during its original Broadway run and broke box office records in its recent revival. With music by Jules Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and book by Isobel Lennart, Funny Girl tells the story of the hilarious Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice and her rise to fame amidst her stormy relationship with charming yet reckless Nick Arnstein.
Jules Styne’s breezy musical score features beloved favorites like “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and the ultimate show-stopper, “People.” The production is directed by our very own “Music Man,” Daniel Fusillo, with music director Karen Corigliano.
The cast features 23 extremely talented performers, with Jessica Kaczor as Fanny Brice, John Murphy as Nick Arnstein, Jessica Wilk as Mrs. Brice, Anthony Graham as Eddie Ryan, and Walter Moore as Flo Ziegfeld. An onstage band of five musicians centerpiece a striking theatrical setting created by Richard Stoodley, with Chuck Bastien as stage manager.
