Players of Utica Announces 2022-2023 Season

UTICA, N.Y., 7/01/2022 – Players of Utica has announced the plays it will present in the 2022-2023 season.

The season opens with “The Butler Did It,” a comedy about a small theatre group’s production of a “who-dun-it” that is troubled by its cast’s petty rivalries and the murder of one of its actors, resulting in hilarious twists and turns. The play is written by Walter Marks and Peter Marks and directed by Mike Beehm. Show dates are September 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11, 2022.

Next is “Kodachrome,” described as a modern “Our Town,” where a photographer helps us peek into the lives and loves of a small American town’s residents for an unforgettable glimpse of fascinating characters. The play by Adam Szymkowicz is directed by Eric Almleaf. Show dates are October 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, 2022.

December brings “Christmas Belles,” in which a church’s Christmas program spins hilariously out of control in a Southern-flavored farce about squabbling sisters, family secrets, and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. Promising to be great holiday fun, the play is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, and directed by Stephen Wagner. Show dates are December 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18, 2022.

Next is “Glorious!,” the hilarious true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, “the worst singer in the world!” In 1940s New York, everyone wanted to see this enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. She warbled her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. The play is written by Peter Quilter and directed by Art Felshaw. Show dates are March 24, 25, 26, 31, April 1, and 2, 2023.

The fifth show is “Girl Singer: A Tribute,” an original musical showcasing hit songs associated with many of the most popular female vocalists of all time and electrified on the stage by some of the most talented performers in the area. This surefire musical entertainment is directed by Daniel Fusillo with music direction by John Krause. Show dates are June 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11, 2023.

Players will present a free season preview on August 14 at 2 pm featuring scenes from each of the shows. Seating is limited, so reservations are required. Go to www.playersofutica.org. Money-saving subscriptions to the entire season are also available.
