Players of Utica Presents Comedy, “Kosher Lutherans”

UTICA, N.Y., 08/20/2024 – Players of Utica opens its 2024-2025 season with the delightful comedy, Kosher Lutherans, which opens September 6 at the Players Theatre on State St.

The fun centers on Hanna and Franklyn, a seemingly perfect couple who desperately want to have a child of their own but are unable to do so. As the couple begins to wonder if they'll ever become parents, they have a chance encounter with a naïve, God-fearing pregnant girl from Iowa who offers to let the couple adopt her out-of-wedlock baby.

Just before the adoption papers are signed, however, Hanna and Franklyn discover the girl is unaware that they are Jewish. Knowing the revelation could throw a ratchet into the whole works, the couple poses as Lutherans to appeal to the girl’s Midwestern sensibilities. But how far are they willing to go to have a family?

The play is helmed by long-time Players director Art Felshaw. “All the characters in this play are searching for something,” Felshaw says, “and it’s amazing how funny it can be watching a group of people just getting it all wrong.”

Kosher Lutherans features Steven Handzel, Chyna Rose, Steve Maggio, Kaysey Hinkle, and Margaret Clive.
