Open Mic / Show Biz Trivia Night

January 12
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Event Category:

Music… comedy… poetry… stories… trivia… and who knows what else! Players of Utica presents Open Mic Night / Show Biz Trivia Night where anyone and everyone is invited to come in and do their thing — and challenge their wits answering show business trivia questions. We’ll even have a piano accompanist (Bonnie Hibbard) in case you want to croon a tune.

  • Sing a song with piano accompaniment (so bring your sheet music and get there by 6:30 to rehearse with Bonnie)
  • Do some stand-up comedy or just tell a few good jokes
  • Read or recite your poetry
  • Do some rap
  • Tell an interesting story
  • Juggle… dance… or do anything else entertaining

Get on stage or just enjoy it all from the audience. It’s always a night of fun and surprises.

To sign up for your spot, contact Riley Spellman at: erileyspellman@gmail.com. You can also sign up on the night of the event. (If you need piano accompaniment, get there by 6:30 to get set up with Bonnie.)

$10 admission for audience; just $5 if you’re going to perform!

Build-a-Theater Fundraiser

This event is part of Players of Utica’s “Build-a-Theater Fundraiser” Series — a campaign to raise funds for the completion of our main stage theater. Since we opened the doors in our building at 1108 State Street (after a devastating fire that destroyed our Oxford Rd. theater in 1999), we’ve been staging our performances in our Black Box theater. And although we’ve made the best possible use of that space, our regular-season productions should be staged in our large main theater. The space is there, but it’s going to take quite a bit of money to complete that theater.

Let’s be honest — it’s going to require a lot of money… for seating, curtains, lighting, sound systems, prop and scenery rooms, dressing rooms, and all the technical equipment a proper theater needs — and a respected community theater deserves. Players of Utica has been bringing professional-quality theater to Central New York for over 100 years! Help us continue in a theater space that will allow us to bring to you even bigger and better shows.

So please help us in our 2019 Build-a-Theater fundraising campaign by coming to our special events, like the Open Mic & Trivia Night above, our regular season shows, and other events. And even if you can’t make it to a particular show (although we always love to see you in the audience; that’s why we perform!), you can still donate. See our Support page for details.

Thank you!
