About the show: In this uproarious comedy, Andrew Rally is about to start rehearsals to play Hamlet—and he is terrified! Unsure of himself, worried about his career, Andrew doesn’t know what to do. In the midst of his confusion, he is visited by the ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore. Barrymore explains that all actors who take on the role are visited and mentored by their predecessors and that he cannot leave Andrew until he takes the stage as Hamlet. Andrew’s girlfriend wants him to be a romantic hero of the stage, his friend wants him to accept a lucrative new TV gig, and Barrymore wants him to accept his own great theatrical mantle. As Andrew grows under Barrymore’s larger-than-life wing, he is forced to confront the ultimate question: who he wants to be… or not to be.

Characters:
Andrew Rally: (20-35) Young and coming off the hype of television and commercial stardom, Andy is uncertain about his role as Hamlet as it is considered the Mt. Everest of acting. That doesn’t stop him from being a charming and a bit over-the-top actor.

John Barrymore: (30-60) The ghost of John Barrymore, larger than life, and over-the-top actor, a constant lady’s man and he strides and talks with a great deal of confidence.

Deirdre McDavey: (20-35) Andy’s girlfriend. Considered a bit naïve and a wild romantic, Deirdre has a different view of how life is. She is a sweet young girl who really does know what she wants, no matter how crazy it sounds.

Lillian Troy: (55-75) Andy’s agent and a German immigrant, Lillian is a strong-willed, no-nonsense woman. She is incredibly direct but does have faith and encourages Andy to better himself as an actor. Required: German accent; doesn’t have to be a thick accent but enough to show.

Felicia Dantine: (30-40): Felicia is Andy’s real estate agent. She is considered an opportunist and another strong female character. Recommended but not required: New York-style accent: Bronx, Long Island, Brooklyn.

Gary Peter Lefkowitz: (20-30): Gary is Andy’s producer and best friend. Gary loves life, parties, and money and is your stereotypical LA producer, who sees television and movies as money-making and doesn’t really understand the theatre. He continually tries to get Andy to leave behind the theatre and come back to LA.

Performance dates: March 27-29 and April 3-5
