Dandelion Wine (a staged reading)$10.00
Players of Utica will present a reader’s theatre tribute to Ray Bradbury, first by a reading from his novelDandelion Wine followed by a contrasting piece from The Illustrated Man.
Dandelion Wine is Bradbury’s moving recollection of a vanished golden era and remains one of his most endearing novels. It is the author’s most deeply personal work, a semi-autographical recollection of both the joys as well as the sorrows of a magical small-town summer of 1928.
In contrast, the second reading — The Veldt, one of the twenty stories found in The Illustrated Man — looks into an imaginary future. In this story, we are introduced to a dream house where everything is done for its occupants, from brushing their hair and tying their shoes down to preparing their meals and cutting up their food. In this story, Bradbury seems to be warning: be careful what you wish for… it may be more than you bargained for.
